And the Chinese made toys are, of course, the least expensive. Every time my hubby fishes some stuffed toy out of that crane machine at the bowling alley for the grandson I think about that. But I also reassure myself with the fact that the kid has so darned many toys -- and would really prefer to play with either water or tools -- that it's just going to go up on a shelf anyway.

That reminds me of a factoid from a recent book, The Devil's Highway, in which I learned that many of the assembly factories in Mexico have shut down because the labor is even cheaper in China. How can it be cheaper to produce products in China AND ship it from there than in Mexico? There is something seriously skewed about this system...
