Why aren't these 'people' (and that may be a stretch) like Rush and Rove and G Gordon Liddy struck by lightning as they utter these horrid, bigoted
lies about Sotomayor? Calling La Raza a version of the KKK??? Is it really possible that they are saying she's a racist, stupid, and going to be driven by
her menstrual cycle (I swear!!!!). What century is this? What country is this? I'm stunned even though I should know better. Im sputtering there are so
many other examples.

LOL, Jill. When someone like Rush attacks (or the pious nitwit on local radio) it makes me root for the person they're attacking for no other reason than
because they're attacking. Childish on my part, I know, but there it is.

What surprises me the most is that there are people who actually like Rush, et all! I mean I know people that I respect in every other way and yet they tell me
that sometimes they agree with Rush! Or they use the excuse- it's just entertainment. No, entertainment doesn't involve slander, lies and promoting
hate. It is not ok and we don't need people like that around.
I would like to add to this, has anyone else noticed how people are now giving Obama the responsibility for the current economy? forgetting who was president for 8 years? Incredible.

Yeah, but... wouldn't it be nice to have somebody on air who was just a bit more objective? Maybe someone who says, "Ya know, I don't quite know
how I feel about this issue/comment/event just yet. Let's explore and put it into some sort of context." Oops, no real sound-bite moments there. Let
us not forget that talk radio and TV and most of the web and a lot of print news is about 'sound bites' -- and how many people ever go beyond that?
Oh, wait, I'm dreamin' again.

LOL!! Yes you were, Karen. You're addressing one of my absolute favorite rants. There are intelligent people on both sides of the political arena. Those
that cover the issues try to stir up hornets nests where there are, in so many cases, none to be had.

Hm, maybe this goes back to our deep human psyche, like how the Romans would go for all that blood and gore in the arena and other cultures that have gone for
really gruesome entertainment- maybe we need that and these kind of 'alarmist', go for the jugular kind of media satisfies a deep need in us.
Personally, I would rather hear an intelligent, non-insulting, stick to the issues kind of discussion. When they start interrupting each other and yelling I
don't want to watch anymore.

Deb, I find myself turning off the tv more often when they start yelling at each other mid discussion. One of the more intelligent shows, though it does have a
liberal slant, is the Rachel Maddow show. She has a policy of only having one guest at a time so they don't have these screaming matches and she asks such
intelligent, info-discovering questions that I find it addictive.
I guess part of the psyche is wanting to hear support for your own positions, but this is way out of control. It's hard to find objective reporting on the air anymore. Most folks today don't even remember the time when journalists weren't even allowed to express an opinion or slant a story. What to some seems an entertaining food fight can in fact be horribly destructive. For example, I've been reading about Clarence Thomas' reaction to the battering he took during his confirmation hearings. But he got through, bitter, angry, and in a position of extraordinary power. He moved even further to the right; to the right of Scalia. Who knows what he might have done differently without the public humiliation, but it had a cost for all of us. Do we really only want people with skin of steel in positions of power? Because that's what they need these days. I'm embarrassed for all of us when it's acceptable to call someone names like 'racist' -- when public servants go on tv to give opinions on Sottomayor and admit they have NOT read her opinions. Do your damn homework at least. Geeesh. Why do we have to accept this? Why don't we protest when EITHER side pulls this nonsense? We know that's the only way things will change. The internet gives us lots of new opportunities to make our voices heard; maybe that's what it will take?

Jill, I was recently at a gathering and tried to suggest to someone, nicely, that she might want to consider watching other things besides FOX to get her news
and she said, "Why? I agree with everything they say."

That is amazing, isn't PB? But it's in those folks personal best interest to deny it, and they seem able to convince others at times.

When you hate people, it's easier to believe evil things that support your feelings. Unfortunately that's true when you're scared or confused
too--that's why racial stereotypes persist I guess and why it's so important to have positive role models, like the Obamas.

I'm just watching clips from today's silent march and tears are running over. Miles of people, marching slowly, quietly, and when the bully militia
comes along, the word was passed and the marchers just sat down quietly. It's overwhelming to see from crowd level. Rachel Maddow just made a potential
parallel to the Berlin Wall rather than Tienamin (sp?) Square.

Well well well, what's little red riding hood...oops I mean Sara Palin...up to do you think? She quits elected office with a year and a half left in her
term, and she spent what, 5 months running with McCain? If I sound snarky, that's how I feel about her. Either she's getting out now because some bad
news is going to break or maybe someone is pressuring her with revelations to come. If it's something personal, she should just say that and not explain.
Do you think the Vanity Fair article was the final straw? Curiouser and curiouser. Maybe she thinks that if Rush can run the Right Wing from his radio booth,
she can do the same?
Ugh--what happened to good old fashioned Republicans I could disagree with but not despise? Imagine growing up with all this nonsense all someone knows of the two party system? Yipes. Ok...sorry, it just boiled over.

About Palin:
A column I just read says that there is a rumor that a criminal indictment will be forthcoming about free services she received from one of the companies that she gave a contract to; http://thepoliticalcarnival.blogspot.com/2009/07/palin-update-indictment-pending.html "Make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back" Fortune cookie saying Rema |

Ok, I admit, I'm not a Palin fan, there, I said it. When I first heard that McCain had picked a woman as VP I thought, well, there goes the campaign-
he's won- then Palin opened her mouth and I knew he had lost. I am the first person to advocate strong women in power positions. I would love a women in
the White House but not her. If she thinks it's a good idea to quit one job to focus on compaigning for presidency, well, I think she is mistaken. I see
her as quitter- will she quit being president if the job gets too tough? I think we are going to hear more garbage, legal problems, etc. There is a skeleton in
this closest. Her 15 minutes are definitely up.

I'm not good at keeping up with the news. Spend too much of my time reading novels of dealing with my family or, well, working, I guess. But someone had
mentioned in the past couple of weeks that there were "all kinds" of ethical violations being leveled at her. Maybe that's why she's stepping
down, plus whatever Rema mentioned above which I don't have time to read right now....
Hope so. Hope it's not a presidential run that's having her step down right now because, seriously, if we're going to have a woman in the White House in my lifetime, it just *CAN'T* be this woman. I'd just have to shoot myself, ya know? Jill said: Ugh--what happened to good old fashioned Republicans I could disagree with but not despise? And I'm right there with ya darlin'! Wink, wink...
