06/12/09 05:51 PM	Been feeling a bit panicky all week - I've started The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but my bookshelf is BARE! Nothing there I haven't read and I feel a bit anxious with nothing to read. What if there's some sort of weather event or I get sick and can't go out? I need a pile there waiting to feel happy so I'm off to the library as soon as I can today to put things right. I've had Dragon Tattoo sitting there for ages and I'm loving it but I'll feel better knowing there's a supply waiting for when I finish it. Going back to see what Michael Connelly you guys recommended I start with too. Been a while since I went to the library to browse - I usually have more reserves than I can comfortably read but this time there are none and I'll have a couple of hours just wandering and picking up what I fancy - can't wait. Those would come too if it weren't so darned far to mail them and expect them to get there any time soon! The first ever Michael Connelly is The Black Echo but really any of the early books will get you started: Concrete Blonde, The Black Ice and so on. They're all fine to get you off the mark but his early tour de police force is The Poet with Bloodwork following on its heels. Good luck finding any or all of the above and enjoy! 07/03/09 10:42 PM	I'm on holiday for 2 weeks and after I get some paperwork done that I need to catch up with I'm going to WALLOW in reading strictly for pleasure! It's bitterly cold so I'm staying home and snuggling up with books for as much of the 2 weeks as I can get away with. Olle, the Jane Hamilton was short so I tackled it as bedtime reading this week. Took a bit to get into but it was an OK read - wouldn't rate it as a standout or particularly memorable. Oooh, forgot to say the library has just emailed to let me know Reginald Hill's latest Dalziel and Pascoe mystery is waiting for me to pick it up - it's called 'Midnight Fugue' - definitely one to look forward to! Jill, for what it's worth, I really thoroughly enjoyed the Guernsey Literary book, but, unlike you, I can't think of another book composed of letters that I've even read, let alone disliked. It's mostly light, somewhat humorous, friendly, fun... enjoyable. Also gave me a perspective on WWII that I hadn't previously had and appreciated. I gave it to several women I know as gifts at Christmas last year -- but I wouldn't give it to a man. It borders on chick-lit at the end -- but only borders.
