Olle, no ottoman but I have a small storage ottoman in the 'puter room that really doesn't get used. The old chair is in the same location in the
living room; this one goes to the basement where it's quieter during those endless football games.

We haven't seen Courtney in a while and were just wondering in chat how things were going. I saw her online here the night that voting ended but she
didn't vote.
And Meg -- what has become of Meg? Hope all is well there, too.

Weather has been beautiful here the past couple of days -- high 80s or low 90s with more of the same forecast for the next few days. We had a couple of days
like that in early June then it cooled down again. Lots of rain in the past month -- *very* rare for Denver -- but nothing in the past couple of days.
In fact, we just came in from sitting on the patio... No breeze at all and the temp feels like there is no temp, if you know what I mean. It was such a pretty night we could have sat there much longer but hubby gets up at 5:00 and is going to be sorry we tarried so late.

Jill, I just saw the 250th episode of Cash Cab (since it's summer it's probably a rerun) and the people who rode in the cab were Deadliest Catch
captains and pals. They were playing for charity. It's the only one I've seen where it was prearranged as to who would be picked up. Thankfully both
groups left with $ for their charities. It would have been awful if they'll lost it all going for the video double.
Anyone watching Top Chef Masters? Each show has 4 uber chefs who are playing for charity. Whoever wins get $10K and goes on to the final show where they'll play for $100K. While I don't know chefs they all seem to know each other. It's very apparant how much more confidence these people have than the usual chefs on the show. Some have been judges for other seasons and they readily admit that creating these things are harder than it looks. But they all seem to be in good humor and support each other, very respectful. On one episode while the 4 were waiting for the judges they got up and made cookies for themselves. Neat. My ds went to a surprise birthday party today, one thing about a surprise party is you have to wait for the guest. And that teen didn't get out of bed until 1/2 hour after the guests were at her friend's house. LOL Did her mom or dad not know they were supposed to wake her up earlier? or would she just not get up when called? why didn't her boyfriend have plans to have her out and about earlier so they could 'drop by' her friend's house? The reason I know this is my ds called to say the ending time might be a little later. So funny. Gorgeous weather! Love having the windows open and hearing the trees moving in the wind. Birds chirping. No a/c running. Hey Tom, Brewers playing the Cards! What a series. :) |

I'm here, I'm alive, and I'm a Dr.!!! I've been coming on at times reading posts but life has just been so busy that I haven't had the
energy to reply myself. We closed on the house and moved in last Tuesday and then this past Tuesday I successfully defended my thesis and got my PhD! So
I've just today finished revisions on the written product and will soon be returning to regular life. Haven't gotten much reading in, only 50 or so
pages into Angel's Game but hope to catch up with you guys on the next book. My last day at grad school is the 17th, well actually will be going in a few
days the week after while the boss is on vacation so that the newer lab members know what they are doing. And I start the new job on Aug.1st, so I'm taking
a week or so off to buy floor to ceiling book shelves for 2 walls of the "media room" and put them together and get them loaded with all my books
that have lived in boxes their whole lives!

Congratulations! I would love to have doctor in my name just for the sheer vanity of it.
I spent the whole day at my daughter's university freshman orientation with her. She is going to my Alma mater and, boy, are things different. When I went there we were thrown to the wolves, here's a course catalog, here's a list of GE requirements- make a schedule'. And that was long before computers. We had to stand in line behind tables, get to the front of the line and be told, 'that class is closed, go stand in another line'! We did this repeatedly until we had some semblance of a schedule. She had counselors, students advising and helping and when she leaves tomorrow she will have a fully approved schedule all ready to go. We were given a school tour, lunch and dinner. Of course we are paying 10 times as much, LOL. |

Oh, wow, I really know a Dr, I really know a Dr... well, sort of ...
Many, many congratulations to you, Courtney. If not for successfully defending your dissertation then at least for getting new bookshelves! LOL :) Congrats, again.

PBee, you and I seem to be posting at exactly the same time tonight -- with me about 2 seconds behind you. So, let me just say that I'm glad your daughter
has a full schedule that she's happy with. (I think she is, isn't she?) That doesn't always happen these days.
Are you ready for her to move on in this way?

She is happy with her schedule and is 'sort of' ready to move on. She is my baby and even admits that is gonna miss her 'mama'. However she
will be living with my mom who lives close to the university so it won't be so hard. Now the question is, am I ready?! I just can't believe that 31
years ago I was a freshman, what the heck happened?

PBee, I didn't ask if SHE was ready ... I asked it YOU were ready.
LOL Got the answer to both questions. Thank you. BTW, I often wonder what the heck happened myself.

Courtney! how wonderful. And how good you must be to have such a smooth ride. Now we can call you Hey Doc! Seriously--huge congratulations on a long effort.
"May you use it in good health" as the saying goes.
So much happening at once, your blood must be swirling and dancing through your bod. Buy an extra bookshelf, we'll help you fill it. PBee, not only were those lines part of my sign-up experience, I remember my son going through the same process when he entered university. I was watching part of the process from a gallery above the hall where they lined up and shaking my head as I watched the line shuffle. All the best to your daughter on her adventure.

Sandra- She is moving in with my mom this weekend (so I won't be posting much because we'll be doing that). School starts on August, 20th I think. Her
boyfriend will be going to school here also so they wanted to get here and start to look for jobs, they'll need luck for that. They are going to San Jose
State. She is studying Marine Biology- when you see those people on Discovery chanel in scuba suits taking pictures of fish...well...in a few years that will
be her. Her boyfriend is going into computer science.
